AMD signs strategic partnership with Anthropic for 2 GW of accelerators
The deal includes Anthropic deploying up to 2 gigawatts of AMD MI450 AI accelerators starting in the first half of 2027, plus AMD’s planned investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
AMD said it has entered a multi-billion-dollar strategic partnership with AI startup Anthropic, a move aimed at expanding its footprint in AI infrastructure. Yahoo Finance reports the announcement followed a July 22 share pop of 1.45%, reflecting investor attention on AMD’s growing AI pipeline.
Under the agreement, Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD’s MI450 AI accelerators beginning in the first half of 2027. The rollout is expected to run on AMD’s next-generation Helios rack-scale platform, combining MI455X GPUs, EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking technology, and ROCm software to support future Claude AI models.
Yahoo Finance also said AMD plans to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic, deepening the relationship as both companies work to expand AI infrastructure. The coverage cited an estimate from KeyBanc analyst John Vinh, who projected the full 2-gigawatt deployment could generate roughly $27.2 billion in revenue for AMD and help the company position itself as an alternative to Nvidia in AI accelerators.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said the collaboration pairs Anthropic’s frontier AI expertise with AMD’s high-performance computing platform to help accelerate AI adoption at scale and position Helios for next-generation AI workloads, according to the report.
