Indian stocks fall for fifth straight session as crude rises on Iran fears
BSE Sensex fell 0.4% to 76,059.8 and NSE Nifty 50 slipped 0.4% to 23,767.5, despite Gift Nifty signaling a higher opening on Monday, 27 July.
Indian equity benchmarks in India extended losses for a fifth straight session as crude oil prices rose amid the escalating US-Iran conflict, weighing on investor sentiment, according to LiveMint Markets.
The BSE Sensex settled down 332 points, or 0.4%, at 76,059.77, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed 102 points lower, or 0.4%, at 23,767.45. Still, Gift Nifty, a futures indicator, was trading near 23,934, up over 127 points from the previous Nifty futures close, pointing to a higher open on Monday, 27 July.
LiveMint Markets cited sentiment improvements tied to a reported pause signaled by the Trump administration in further military strikes on Iran to allow diplomacy. The outlet also said Gift Nifty futures were trading around 23,938 versus the previous Nifty close of 23,767, suggesting a gap-up opening.
Several companies were expected to keep investors focused on Monday due to their upcoming Q1 results, including Bharat Electronics, Coal India, Indus Towers, Canara Bank, Coforge, and Tata Power. The brief also highlighted Q1 updates from NTPC, which reported an 11.9% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to ₹ 5,342.4 crore for the first quarter of FY27, and from IDFC Bank, which posted its highest-ever quarterly PAT of ₹ 1,075 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
