Metaplanet plans bitcoin-backed Bitbonds with eventual on-chain settlement

The company’s proposal includes issuing 4% to 6% bitcoin-backed bonds first, with a later shift to on-chain execution using stablecoin settlement.

Metaplanet is laying out plans for a bitcoin-backed bond product, dubbed Bitbonds, according to The Block. The proposal centers on launching the bonds with interest rates in the 4% to 6% range.

The Block reports that Metaplanet also intends to transition the bonds to an on-chain format later, shifting how settlement works rather than keeping the product entirely off-chain.

In that later phase, settlement would be handled with stablecoins, aligning the issuance with blockchain infrastructure after the initial rollout of the bitcoin-backed bonds.
