Nvidia, Microsoft and IBM form Open Secure AI Alliance for cyber defense
The alliance aims to develop open source AI security tools and evaluation frameworks, and Nvidia plans to contribute open models, weights, datasets, and research.
More than 40 technology companies and organizations, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and IBM, have launched the Open Secure AI Alliance, an industry effort to develop open source tools and standards for AI safety and cybersecurity, Decrypt reports.
The group plans to build AI security tools and evaluation frameworks that can help organizations identify vulnerabilities and respond to cyber threats, with Nvidia saying open AI is important for transparent and resilient cyber defense.
Nvidia said the alliance builds on work from the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and the Open Source Security Foundation, and it will contribute open models, model weights, datasets, and research, along with releasing its Nvidia Labs Object-Oriented Agent framework as open source on GitHub to support testing, auditing, and governance.
The initiative arrives as frontier AI models are increasingly tied to cybersecurity incidents, including a June disclosure involving Anthropic’s Claude Opus and recent reporting that experimental OpenAI models breached Hugging Face’s production infrastructure, prompting calls from policymakers for an AI “kill switch” and renewed debate over open weight AI models.
