Trump says Iran talks are ongoing as markets await central banks
The outlook for risk appetite could keep safe havens such as the yen and US dollar in focus while investors watch three major central bank meetings.
FXStreet reports that on Monday, US President Donald Trump said Iran is talking to the US about a deal, adding that reaching one is possible and that there is “plenty of time” to do so.
Trump also said the US chance of becoming involved would depend on developments involving the Houthis, and he noted that he had not discussed the Abraham Accords with Saudi Arabia.
The outlet framed the market backdrop through the “risk-on” versus “risk-off” lens, explaining that in risk-on periods stocks often rise and many commodities gain, while in risk-off periods bonds, gold, and safe-haven currencies such as the Japanese yen, Swiss franc, and US dollar tend to benefit.
FXStreet added that currencies linked to commodity exporters, including the Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, and New Zealand dollar, often strengthen in risk-on markets, while the US dollar, yen, and Swiss franc are typically stronger in risk-off conditions.
