Brookfield forecasts 6.5 GW of AI data-center capacity in India by 2031
The New York-based manager said India has about 1.5 GW of installed data-center capacity today, mostly not for AI, with non-AI capacity expected to reach about 3 GW alongside new AI demand.
Brookfield Asset Management expects about 6.5 gigawatts of AI-related data-centre capacity to come online in India over the next five years, a senior executive said Tuesday, according to Reuters.
Brookfield executive Arpit Agrawal, managing partner and head of India and the Middle East for the firm’s infrastructure group, linked the growth outlook to expanding demand for AI inferencing, which is the stage where trained AI models generate answers, content, or predictions.
Agrawal said India currently has roughly 1.5 GW of installed data-centre capacity, almost all for uses other than AI. He added that non-AI capacity is expected to rise to about 3 GW in addition to new AI-related demand.
Reuters also reported that Brookfield’s Digital Connexion venture has about 160 MW of data-centre capacity in India, with 60 MW operational and fully leased, and that it is building the remaining capacity. The partnership is between Brookfield, U.S.-listed Digital Realty, and Reliance Industries, while Brookfield’s India energy platforms expect to add about 4.0 to 4.5 GW of renewable capacity this year. Brookfield manages more than $32 billion of assets in India and said in May 2025 it aimed to more than triple that to more than $100 billion within five years.
