Lido launches Curated Module v2 to reduce Ethereum validators by about one-third

Lido said the upgrade, not yet started, could cut Ethereum validator count from about 880,000 to roughly 628,000, based on its projections.

Lido has launched Curated Module v2, an upgrade to its Ethereum staking infrastructure that aims to improve validator efficiency and decentralization, according to Cointelegraph.

The protocol said Curated Module v2 adds support for Ethereum’s 0x02 withdrawal credentials and would allow validators to increase their effective balance from 32 ETH to up to 2,048 ETH.

Based on Lido’s projections, the migration could reduce Ethereum’s validator count from about 880,000 to roughly 628,000, a decrease of about one-third, and is expected to reduce the consensus layer’s validator messages needed to maintain the network.

Lido said the update is handled at the protocol level, so no action is required from stakers, and it includes new accountability measures for node operators, including bonding and penalty mechanisms.
