Millers for Nutrition coalition highlights flour fortification progress

The coalition said it now works with more than 900 millers across Africa and Asia to support fortified staple foods.

World Grain reports that the Millers for Nutrition coalition held its annual meeting at MC Mühlenchemie's FlourWorld Museum in Wittenburg, Germany.

The coalition discussed how stronger partnerships and market-based solutions can expand access to fortified staple foods and improve nutrition worldwide, describing the program as a public-private partnership involving food processors, industry partners, governments, and development organizations.

According to World Grain, Millers for Nutrition works with more than 900 millers across Africa and Asia, and the meeting focused on lessons from implementation, improving enabling market conditions, and developing commercially viable approaches to encourage long-term investment in high-quality food fortification.

The outlet also noted that hidden hunger affects more than two billion people globally, and that food fortification is widely seen as one of the most effective and scalable measures to address micronutrient deficiency, though sustained impact requires collaboration across the public and private sectors.
