Nvidia CEO meets US officials amid scrutiny over China chip access
The meetings come as US export controls limit Nvidia sales of its most advanced processors to China, and Nvidia says it is focused on strengthening a US supply chain and producing $500 billion of American technology over four years.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is in Washington this week to meet with US officials and lawmakers, as scrutiny grows over whether the companys export-controlled processors are being used to train advanced Chinese artificial intelligence models, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports that Huang met with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Tuesday, citing Axios and an anonymous source. The US Commerce Department and Nvidia did not confirm that the meeting occurred, and the purpose was not disclosed.
In a statement shared with SCMP Economy, a Nvidia spokesperson said Huang is in DC to meet with leaders across political parties to discuss work to strengthen the countrys supply chain by producing $500 billion in American technology over four years, and Nvidia efforts in AI, including open source.
SCMP Economy notes that US export controls restrict the sale of Nvidia's most advanced processors to China, a key point in the ongoing debate over access to chips used in advanced AI training.
