SEC Chairman Paul Atkins backs the Crypto Clarity Act

Atkins urged Congress to advance the long-awaited bill before the chamber’s August recess, as lawmakers look to resolve disputes over the bill’s stablecoin and ethics language.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said he is committed to supporting Congress in advancing the Crypto Clarity Act, according to Bitcoin Magazine. Atkins wrote on X on Tuesday that he backs the long-awaited crypto market structure bill and pointed to discussion of the need for a regulatory framework during a Monday CNBC interview.

Lawmakers have aimed to pass the measure before Congress departs for the August recess. Bitcoin Magazine also reported that the bill was drafted with bipartisan support, but some Democrats have raised objections to the current version.

Atkins has taken a more crypto-friendly regulatory approach than his predecessor, Gary Gensler, the outlet said. The Clarity Act was passed in the House last year, but has remained deadlocked through much of 2026, partly tied to concerns raised by major bankers around stablecoin yield and Democrat concerns about ethics language.

An updated version of the bill was introduced last week that addresses ethics concerns by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto, Bitcoin Magazine reported. Republicans are aiming to secure bipartisan support for the bill to move the legislation forward this week.
