Six lawmakers disclose SpaceX stock purchases after its IPO
The six lawmakers together report investing between $182,000 and $480,000 so far, and their stakes are currently underwater as the stock has hit repeated all-time lows.
SpaceX shares drew investment activity from Capitol Hill after the company entered public markets, with Yahoo Finance reporting that six members of Congress have disclosed purchases tied to the IPO and subsequent entries into the stock.
The first apparent purchase cited by the outlet came from Rep. Lisa McClain, and her husband bought Musk’s xAI between $100,000 and $250,000 in December 2025, before it was folded into SpaceX in February. SpaceX’s IPO on June 12 was followed by additional purchases, including Rep. John James’s wife buying between $15,000 and $50,000 on the IPO day.
Yahoo Finance also said three additional GOP lawmakers obtained shares three days later, including Rep. Daniel Meuser of Pennsylvania, William Timmons of South Carolina, and John McGuire of Virginia. A Democrat also bought shares, with Gilbert Cisneros of California purchasing between $1,000 and $5,000 on June 18.
According to the article, lawmakers must file financial disclosures within 30 days of trades, so more July transactions could be revealed in the coming weeks. It also noted that several of the lawmakers sit on committees overseeing areas where SpaceX has interests, and that SpaceX stock has recently hit all-time lows, leaving the purchases in the red.
