U.S. bans imports of advanced Chinese robots and connected power inverters

The FCC expanded its Covered List to restrict new sales of mobile robotic devices and connected power inverters, while existing equipment is not affected.

The Trump administration said it is banning imports of new advanced robotic devices and connected power inverters, citing US national security risks and supply chain vulnerabilities, according to an SCMP Economy article.

The FCC expanded its Covered List to add two categories of foreign-made equipment, including mobile robots such as humanoids and quadrupeds.

The move would prohibit the import and sale of the newly covered robotic devices and power inverters, but would not impact devices that were already purchased, SCMP Economy reported.

In its notice, the FCC said networked capabilities of advanced robotic systems can create vulnerabilities that could be exploited to manipulate data and physical operations of such systems, according to the outlet.
