Chinese robotics firm expands UK warehouse automation for retailers
MotionTech has deployed more than 2,000 Geek+ robots across 10 UK warehouse sites, aiming to boost picking speed and reduce staffing pressure.
BBC Business describes how autonomous warehouse robots built by Chinese firm Geek+ are increasingly used to process online orders faster by automating shelf picking and transport within distribution centers.
Geek+ says its mobile robots, which can be deployed using QR code floor markers and safety fencing rather than fixed conveyor infrastructure, help retailers increase picking speeds, store more inventory in hard to reach areas, and reduce picking errors.
The outlet reports that UK retailers including Tesco, Asda, and Next use Geek+ technology, with the company citing demand for deployable automation amid broader productivity challenges.
BBC Business also highlights that the UK has struggled with weak productivity growth and labour shortages, and that the OECD has flagged Britain's low robotics adoption as surprising. It adds that Geek+ has become the world's largest supplier of autonomous mobile robots and that Geek+ is already shipping into the UK as its biggest European market through MotionTech, which has rolled out more than 2,000 robots across 10 warehouse sites.
