Constanta terminal expansion boosts grain storage to 180,000 tonnes
The Canopus Constanța project, completed at a Port of Constanța facility, added six 11,000-tonne silos and new barge receiving, truck unloading, and cargo weighing stations.
World Grain reports that a Romanian freight forwarding services company has completed a grain storage and handling expansion at the Canopus Constanța terminal in the Port of Constanța.
Transport Trade Services SA said the project increased the terminal’s storage capacity to 180,000 tonnes, adding six storage silos of 11,000 tonnes each, plus five buffer silos of 825 tonnes. The construction also included a new cargo receiving station for river barges, equipment for a truck unloading station, conveying systems such as belt conveyors and bucket elevators, and three weighing stations on the vessel loading line.
According to the filing, the expanded terminal receives cargo from barges and trucks through two unloading stations, each with a handling capacity of 400 tonnes per hour. Loading onto seagoing vessels uses the two existing ship loaders, each with a loading rate of 800 tonnes per hour.
World Grain also notes that Canopus Star SRL Constanța, one of the TTS Group port operators at the site, is a joint venture owned by TTS and Cargill Agricultura SRL, the Romanian unit of US-based Cargill, and that construction began on Jan. 20, 2025, with completion announced in a July 20 filing with the Bucharest Stock Exchange investor disclosure system.
