HSBC plans to relocate senior people and governance officer to Hong Kong
After the move later this year, four of HSBC’s 13 group operating committee members are expected to be based in Hong Kong.
HSBC Holdings will relocate Aileen Taylor, its group chief people and governance officer, from London to Hong Kong later this year, according to sources cited by the South China Morning Post. The change is part of the bank’s push to expand its Hong Kong and broader Asia operations.
HSBC expects that once Taylor is based in Hong Kong, four of its 13 group operating committee members will be located in the city. The report says co-CEOs for Asia and the Middle East, David Liao Yi-chien and Surendra Rosha, along with Barry O’Byrne, CEO of international wealth and premier banking, are already in Hong Kong.
The outlet also linked the shift to leadership emphasis on Hong Kong. It notes HSBC CEO Georges Elhedery signalled the city’s importance after starting his role in September 2024, including spending several days in Hong Kong, visiting HSBC sites in Central, meeting customers, and engaging with local regulators.
