Meta’s America’s Workforce Academy trains workers for construction jobs
The program, backed by a $115 million Meta pledge, includes a five-week course and job guarantees at participating Meta partner construction sites after graduation.
Meta is training participants through its America’s Workforce Academy, a program announced jointly in June by Meta president Dina Powell-McCormick and Mike Rowe, with the company pledging $115 million toward workforce training for trades including plumbing, electrical work and mechanical systems, according to Yahoo Finance.
One early participant, Laniya Brooks, previously worked as a custodian at a data center and was recruited after a technician noticed her work ethic and pointed her to the application. After being accepted, she traveled to Indianapolis and began learning about physical servers and networking as she works toward an advanced technician role within a year, the outlet said.
Yahoo Finance reports that all Academy graduates are guaranteed a job with a Meta partner construction site after completing the five-week course. Rowe and Powell-McCormick linked the effort to broader industry hiring needs, saying Meta expects to need thousands more workers as it builds infrastructure.
The story also notes that other companies have committed training funding alongside Meta, with Lowe’s, BlackRock and Google collectively putting $365 million toward training new tradespeople, aiming to train around 300,000 workers by 2036, and Rowe highlighted additional corporate supporters including Ford, Carhartt and Home Depot.
