Tokenized traditional assets on crypto exchanges jump to $6.6B

CoinGecko data says tokenized traditional assets nearly fivefold in 18 months, and perpetual futures make up most trading activity because they are offered without custodying the underlying tokens.

CryptoTradFi activity on centralized exchanges has surged, with CoinGecko estimating the market capitalization of tokenized traditional assets reached $6.6 billion in June 2026, up from $1.4 billion in January 2025.

CoinGecko said the broader tokenized assets include precious metals, US stocks, commodities, global indexes, and forex, with early growth driven largely by tokenized precious metals before expanding into US equities.

The report also found that by mid-2026, US stock perpetual futures overtook precious metals in both trading volume and open interest, citing investor interest in semiconductor stocks and anticipation around initial public offerings.

CoinGecko attributed derivatives dominance to trader preferences for leveraged products and the ability for exchanges to list perpetual contracts without issuing or custodying the underlying tokenized assets, as centralized platforms face pressure from both decentralized exchanges and traditional brokerages like Robinhood expanding digital asset offerings.
