World Insurance Associates CEO lays out AI-driven brokerage expansion plan
The CEO, who took over on April 21, has visited 38 cities and says the brokerage will use AI to reduce client service friction while keeping local relationships central.
World Insurance Associates is looking to accelerate growth with an AI-led strategy that keeps local agent relationships in place while adding real-time insights, the brokerage CEO said. John Newell took over as chief executive officer on April 21, succeeding founder Rich Eknoian, and he is about two months into the job.
Two months into the role, Newell has visited 38 cities across the US and says the pace of operational change has been his biggest surprise. He previously led insurance, benefits and retirement services as chief commercial officer at Newfront, and spent two decades at Marsh, most recently as head of the firm’s Central US region.
World serves roughly 450,000 clients across more than 230 offices using a single Applied Epic platform, a foundation Eknoian insisted on during the brokerage’s 293-acquisition buildout over the last 15 years. Newell said his travels suggest demand for more technology in day-to-day work, not resistance, and he wants the firm to support both door-to-door service and more digital transactions depending on the market.
For clients, Newell said the model will aim to shift how information is gathered, moving from person-to-person calls to agents feeding real-time data across World’s client base using AI. He also described an industry trend toward vertical specialization, and said World has continued active acquisitions through 2025 even as the broader market slowed.
