Major Cities Chiefs Association endorses crypto CLARITY Act draft
The police group backed the latest version as lawmakers aim to pass the bill before Congress leaves for the August recess.
The Major Cities Chiefs Association, a nonprofit made up of police chiefs from major U.S. cities, said it supports the current draft of the CLARITY Act, citing how the bill addresses financial crime, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
Lawmakers are pushing to get the CLARITY Act passed before Congress departs for the August recess. The bill was drafted on a bipartisan basis, but some Democrats have said they are not satisfied with the current version, and the legislation has been in deadlock for much of 2026 despite earlier momentum.
Bitcoin Magazine reports the association said recent changes earned its support in a letter posted on X by Semafor White House reporter Eleanor Mueller. The outlet also notes that the National Fraternal Order of Police supported the bill last week, and Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto sent suggested changes along with two law enforcement groups, which she said she felt were “good.”
The article adds that banking industry concerns included stablecoin yield, and some lawmakers raised ethics-related issues. An updated bill introduced last week would ban government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto, while Democratic and some Republican lawmakers have also criticized President Trump’s crypto business interests over alleged conflicts of interest.
