Samsung reports record Q2 profit on strong semiconductor demand

Samsung said its memory and server-chip outlook remains supported by AI infrastructure expansion, even as it expects the memory market to stay undersupplied in the second half.

Samsung Electronics reported a record operating profit of 89.5 trillion won, about $62 billion, for the quarter ended June 30, with the company reporting revenues of 171.5 trillion won, about $119 billion, an all-time high. The South Korea-based tech giant said its fiscal year runs through December 31 and follows a calendar-year reporting schedule.

The results were driven largely by the company’s semiconductor business, which benefited from rising chip prices tied to strong demand for AI servers and higher shipments of advanced high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI applications. A Reuters description of the quarter noted that semiconductor strength helped offset an operating loss in Samsung’s mobile, TV, and home appliances segment.

Samsung also pointed to expectations for robust demand for memory products in the second half of the year, linking that outlook to expansion of AI infrastructure and broader adoption of agentic AI. The company added that growing demand for server chips is expected to keep the memory chip market undersupplied.

Samsung’s earnings came a day after rival SK Hynix reported record results, as the two largest memory chipmakers continued to benefit from AI-driven demand. In the same period, concerns about aggressive manufacturing expansion plans and intensifying competition from Chinese rivals weighed on both companies’ shares in South Korea, with SK Hynix shares declining by more than 9.0% on Wednesday.
