Chainalysis said nearly 400,000 wallets have been involved since January 2026, with $5.7 billion in volume generated during the event itself, held in June and July.
The soccer tournament became the largest prediction market event by volume, surpassing the $3.6 billion figure recorded during the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
CoinDesk reports that prediction markets use derivatives contracts on event outcomes and settle when the event occurs, with platforms including Polymarket using blockchain rails and settlement in stablecoin USDC.
