Bank regulators announce enhanced procedures for sensitive exam data
The agencies say they will notify affected banks within 72 hours of discovering any potential or confirmed material data breach involving confidential supervisory information.
The federal bank regulatory agencies issued a joint statement outlining enhanced security procedures for reviewing highly sensitive information during examinations of supervised banks, including using on site reviews rather than transferring materials onto agency systems.
The statement describes a coordinated approach to identifying highly sensitive data and documents, along with enhanced procedures intended to reduce cybersecurity risks while keeping exam access to supervisory information at all times.
The agencies also said they will notify affected banks of any potential or confirmed material data breach involving confidential supervisory information as soon as practicable, and no later than 72 hours after discovery if legal restrictions do not apply.
