Chile meets China’s ambassador after US forced labor export tariff move
Chile said it will continue discussions with the Trump administration to improve market access, including exclusions for products it considers essential to its export basket.
Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast met China’s ambassador to Santiago, Niu Qingbao, at La Moneda Palace on Friday morning, according to the Chilean presidency, in the first meeting between the two men since Kast took office in March.
The meeting came after the US trade authority earlier proposed the engagement in response to concerns tied to forced labor, opening a window for Chile to present its case through the foreign ministry and export associations, the SCMP Economy reported.
Chile said it would keep talking with the Trump administration to improve access conditions, including seeking exclusions for products it considers essential to Chile’s export basket, SCMP Economy added.
