Chinese father sues major game firms after son drug poisoning
He filed the case in Tanghe County, Henan, about a May 23 incident in which his son ingested 18 fever pills and was later diagnosed with drug poisoning.
A father in central China has sued four mainland online gaming companies, Tencent, NetEase, miHoYo, and 37 Interactive Entertainment, after his gaming-addicted son suffered drug poisoning, according to coverage by SCMP Economy.
The father, surnamed Qin, is seeking symbolic compensation of 10 yuan (US$1.5). His main goal is to have the court supervise the companies to ensure they meet obligations to prevent minors from overindulging in gaming.
SCMP Economy reports that the lawsuit was filed about a month after Qin's son, who turned 18 at the start of 2026, swallowed 18 fever pills on the evening of May 23. Hours later, he vomited heavily, collapsed, and was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with drug poisoning before returning home to recover.
The report says the son has been unwilling to explain the reasons for taking the medication, and had shown no symptoms of fever at the time. The case was filed in a court in Tanghe County, Henan province, where Qin lives.
