Drones hit Egypt’s Damietta LNG facilities, disrupting gas operations

The attacks involved the US-owned Energos Winter unit and a second vessel, which were set on fire before operations later resumed.

A drone attack reached Egypt’s Mediterranean gas infrastructure for the first time in the war, striking the US-owned Energos Winter floating storage and regasification unit and a second gas-processing vessel at Damietta port, according to OilPrice.

The strikes set both ships on fire and forced them offshore, but no casualties were reported and the port authority said operations have resumed.

Egyptian military investigators are examining how the drones penetrated multiple layers of air defence at one of the country’s most heavily guarded energy sites, while officials have opened direct contacts with Tehran to determine who launched the drones.

OilPrice also reported that Egypt has rerouted LNG imports through its remaining floating regasification terminals and is leaning more on fuel oil and diesel to reduce the risk of another round of nationwide power shortages amid a wider regional conflict.
