Erie Indemnity management fee revenue rises 4.7% as Exchange growth steadies
Second-quarter management fee revenue reached $862.9 million, while commission expense increased by $44.7 million amid higher agent incentives.
Erie Indemnity Company reported second-quarter 2026 management fee revenue from policy issuance and renewal services of $862.9 million, up 4.7% from $823.9 million a year earlier, as the company’s fee-based model tracks Exchange written premium growth.
Insurance Business said Erie earns those fees for administering policies on behalf of the Erie Insurance Exchange rather than bearing underwriting risk directly, and the rise in fee revenue aligns with Exchange premium growth that continues to expand more slowly than in the prior year.
Operating income increased to $204.1 million, up 2.5% from $199.2 million in the second quarter of 2025. Net income was $180.3 million, or $3.45 per diluted share, compared with $174.7 million, or $3.34 per diluted share, a year earlier.
Commission expense rose $44.7 million in the quarter, which the company attributed to higher agent incentive compensation and growth in direct and affiliated assumed written premium at the Exchange. Insurance Business noted management fee revenue from administrative services added $19.6 million, up 7.2%, while the company pointed to a recent deceleration in Exchange direct written premiums and softer policy retention following earlier rate increases.
