Hamas announces an agreement to disarm in Gaza roadmap
Hamas linked the disarmament plan to Israeli concessions, including ending hostilities and withdrawing troops from Palestinian territory.
Hamas said it reached an agreement to disarm, calling it a potential step toward ending the war in Gaza, but it warned the process would likely face major hurdles and could take a long time, if it happens at all.
According to Hamas and officials speaking with Associated Press, the roadmap is conditional on Israel making concessions. Those include ending hostilities and withdrawing its troops from Palestinian territory.
Hamas senior official Bassem Naim confirmed the agreement in a post on X. Israel has not commented on the deal, which US President Donald Trump announced hours earlier.
The announcement comes about nine months after a US brokered ceasefire plan was signed, a 20 point framework that called for Hamas to surrender its weapons and destroy its tunnel network. Associated Press reports that the disarmament agreement follows that earlier ceasefire effort.
