Pump.fun fired workers before PUMP token payouts due to rapid growth
The layoffs reportedly occurred in April, about two months before planned PUMP unlocks linked to 2025 agreements set for June 2026.
Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad, reportedly laid off employees in April before they were scheduled to receive PUMP tokens, according to Cointelegraph, citing a Sandmark report.
Cointelegraph said at least one worker was due to receive PUMP tokens worth in the seven-figure range, and that Pump.fun co-founder Noah Tweedale attributed the layoffs to the company growing too quickly.
The outlet reported that agreements signed in 2025 included a schedule to unlock a quarter of employees’ allocated tokens in one year, with the timing set for June 2026.
Cointelegraph also noted Pump.fun has faced legal actions over allegations including a “rigged” mechanism for investors and claims related to maximal extractable value practices, and it cited the PUMP price at $0.002113, up 7.5% over the prior 24 hours.
