Trump claims a deal would lead to Hamas disarmament in Gaza
WTI crude was down 1.2% to $82.6 a barrel after the announcement, reflecting how conflict headlines can move energy prices.
US President Donald Trump said his “Board of Peace” has reached what he called an historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, the Guardian reported, citing Trump’s comments.
Trump said Israel would leave Gaza once disarmament is completed, with an International Stabilization Force working with a new Palestinian police force to handle responsibility for Gaza’s safety.
The report also said senior Hamas officials have reportedly confirmed they reached a deal to end the conflict with Israel after Trump said the group was prepared to disarm.
At the time of writing, West Texas Intermediate crude was down 1.2% on the day at $82.6, highlighting the sensitivity of oil prices to developments in geopolitical conflict.
