Xi urges PLA to expand AI use for an intelligent military system
The push comes as China targets defense modernization by 2035 and a world class military by 2049, with Xi saying the PLA has made significant progress since 2012.
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the People’s Liberation Army to deepen its use of artificial intelligence as part of building an intelligent military system, according to Xinhua as reported by SCMP Economy.
At a Politburo group study session, Xi emphasized strengthening the military application of unmanned intelligent technologies, expanding development and use of network information systems, and improving combat readiness, SCMP Economy wrote.
SCMP Economy also noted that China’s military modernization milestones include basically achieving defense and armed forces modernization by 2035 and reaching a world class force by 2049, and that Xi said the PLA had made significant progress since 2012.
