Hercules Metals names new leadership for Leviathan copper project
George Ogilvie will start as president and CEO on Sept. 1 as Hercules aims to advance Leviathan toward development despite having not yet published a mineral resource or economic study.
Hercules Metals has recruited the management team behind Arizona Sonoran Copper’s $1.4 billion sale to Hudbay Minerals to help push the Leviathan copper discovery in Idaho toward development, Mining.com reports.
George Ogilvie will become president and CEO on Sept. 1, joined by six former Arizona Sonoran executives covering finance, legal affairs, permitting, investor relations, and resource geology. Founder Chris Paul will shift to senior vice-president of exploration and remain a director, according to the company release cited by Mining.com.
Hercules said Leviathan is near Cambridge, about two hours by road from Boise, and that the project has expanded with broad copper intercepts and drilling identifying a second porphyry centre at Southern Flats. The company has also received support from Barrick Mining in consolidating more than 404.7 sq. km along a 73-km copper belt, strengthening the case for a district approach rather than a single deposit.
Mining.com also notes that Hercules has not yet published a mineral resource or economic study for Leviathan. The outlet adds that the incoming leadership follows Hercules’ move from Arizona Sonoran, which shifted from a private company with an implied value of about $125 million in 2021 to Hudbay’s takeover in June, and that Hercules raised more than $300 million to advance its Cactus project, where a Sept. 2025 resource estimate includes 1.04 billion measured and indicated tonnes grading 0.48% copper and 211.7 million inferred tonnes grading 0.37% copper.
