Hong Kong warns of heavy showers and squally thunderstorms

Authorities reported six landslide cases between Friday and Saturday evening, and a retaining wall sustained damage.

Hong Kong is bracing for more bad weather over the next few days after the Hong Kong Observatory warned of heavy showers at times and squally thunderstorms over the coast of southern China.

The forecaster said the conditions are being driven by a broad trough of low pressure and an active southerly airstream, with thundery showers noted over Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea. In parallel, an area of low pressure is bringing unsettled weather to seas east of the Philippines.

Local authorities said they received six landslide reports between Friday and Saturday evening, along with a report of damage to the facing of a retaining wall.

The Observatory said it will issue rainstorm warning signals or localised heavy rain advisories when necessary, and it expects more showers with thunderstorms first on Monday, followed by a few showers in the following couple of days.
