Huanggang Port stress tests planned for more than 10,000 people

The Hong Kong government’s security chief said large-scale joint drills with Shenzhen will be followed by a review before an official opening date is set.

Hong Kong authorities plan major stress tests at the revamped Huanggang Port border crossing, with participation from more than 10,000 people including Hong Kong civil servants, according to SCMP Economy.

Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung said the drills will form part of more than 100 exercises planned in coming months to support smooth and safe operations, and will include individual and cross-departmental tests across the Hong Kong government, alongside mainland Chinese participation.

Tang said the scope includes a few large-scale joint exercises with the Shenzhen side, involving at least 10,000 people, and noted that once the exercises are completed, officials will consider the official opening date.

The security chief stopped short of committing to a specific opening date, though earlier reporting suggested the land crossing could begin operating as early as September.
