Iran warns of decisive retaliation if US carries out new attacks
The warning follows Kuwait’s statement that it destroyed Iranian-launched hostile drones targeting vital facilities, raising regional risk for energy assets.
Iran warned that it would respond decisively if the United States carries out fresh attacks on Iranian targets, according to comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made in phone calls with senior officials from Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as reported by Reuters and relayed via Araqchi’s Telegram account.
Araqchi said Iran would reply to any “aggression” and discussed the consequences of destabilising actions by the US, including the prospect of heightened regional insecurity. He later told Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan that any US or Israel attacks, or participation by regional countries, would be met with a proportionate response.
The latest escalation comes hours after Kuwait’s army said it destroyed hostile drones launched by Iran aimed at several vital facilities, Reuters reported. Iranian-linked media, including Nournews, said US strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure would prompt Iranian strikes on oilfields and gas assets in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Israel.
Separately, Reuters said President Donald Trump told a cabinet meeting at the Camp David retreat that he believes US negotiators, including Jared Kushner, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, could still reach a deal with Iran.
