Modi says he wants to forgive protesters after CJP paper leak protests
Modi blamed abuses during demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, and police sought removals on Meta and X for allegedly abusive and manipulated content targeting the premier.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he wanted to “forgive” protesters who abused him during recent youth-led demonstrations linked to examination paper leaks, a development that dealt what leaders described as a rare political setback to his government, according to SCMP Economy.
The remarks came after the online Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) mobilised large protests in New Delhi and other cities, with videos circulating of protesters hurling insults at Modi and subsequent claims that some faced police complaints and online abuse from his supporters, local media reports said.
Police also asked social media platforms including Meta and X to remove content they described as abusive and manipulated, according to SCMP Economy.
In a video posted on Instagram late on Friday, Modi, 75, referenced events at Jantar Mantar and said the country and the world had seen what happened there, describing the protesters as “mischievous youngsters.”
