OPEC+ eyes another quota increase, but exporting extra oil is the hurdle
MarketWatch says OPEC+ could lift output quotas for a sixth straight month, yet the ability to move additional barrels to buyers remains the key constraint on prices.
OPEC and its allies are likely to consider another increase in oil output quotas as the Iran war broadens, according to MarketWatch. The potential decision comes as the group may extend quota hikes for a sixth consecutive month at its next meeting Sunday.
While the extra production could raise supply, MarketWatch highlights that the bigger challenge is not boosting output, but finding workable ways to export the additional barrels. Without effective export routes and mechanisms, the price impact could be muted even if quotas rise.
In other words, the market focus shifts to logistics and flows of crude to end buyers, rather than the quota numbers themselves. MarketWatch frames the export hurdle as the main reason the quota increase may not translate into lower prices.
