Truck bomb near police station in Colombia wounds 14 ahead of inauguration
The blast in Cucuta, near the Venezuelan border, injured 11 police officers and three civilians, with two officers reported as fighting for their lives.
A truck bomb exploded near a police station in Cucuta, northern Colombia, close to the Venezuelan border, leaving 14 people wounded just days before president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella takes office, according to SCMP Economy.
The Colombian government blamed rebels from the National Liberation Army, the country’s largest active guerrilla group, for the early morning attack, and AFP reporters observed the vehicle burning and damaged building facades.
Eleven police officers and three civilians were hurt, with Norte de Santander governor William Villamizar saying two of the wounded officers were “fighting for their lives.”
De la Espriella, who will be sworn in on August 7, condemned the attack as an “atrocious, violent act,” according to the report.
