McDonald’s South Korea suspends corn cheese croquette burger over stones
The burger, sold as part of the Taste of Korea campaign, had reached more than 1 million units in two weeks before being pulled early for safety concerns.
McDonald’s in South Korea has suspended sales of a limited edition Chungju corn cheese croquette burger after multiple customers complained about finding small stones in the product, cutting short the item’s promotional window, The Korea Times reported. The company ended sales of the latest Taste of Korea menu item on Thursday, nearly two weeks before it was scheduled to run out on August 12.
A McDonald’s Korea official said the complaints involved customers biting into stones, which the company treated as a safety issue, and the chain took a preemptive step to end sales early. The burger launched on July 9 as the sixth menu item in the Taste of Korea campaign.
The Korea Times said the item was one of the campaign’s fastest selling seasonal offerings, surpassing 1 million units sold within two weeks of release. McDonald’s Korea also said it collaborated with Chungju on the menu and used about 25 tonnes of locally produced corn to support regional farmers.
