Rosewood Hotel Group to proceed with Central clubhouse operator change
The planned August 8 transition would shift the Town Club’s operations from the Hong Kong Golf & Tennis Academy to Carlyle & Co, after complaints were filed with multiple agencies.
Rosewood Hotel Group in Hong Kong plans to move forward with a controversial change to the operator of the Town Club in Central on August 8, despite escalating opposition from a group of members, the South China Morning Post reports. According to SCMP Economy, the hotelier’s Carlyle & Co private club is expected to take over operation of the Town Club from the Hong Kong Golf & Tennis Academy as scheduled. A group of HKGTA patrons is still pursuing ways to oppose the takeover, including writing to the Legislative Council Secretariat after filing complaints with the Consumer Council and the Customs and Excise Department under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. SCMP Economy says a transitional change is expected to proceed as planned on August 8. Rosewood has described the move as a rebranding of the Town Club. The planned takeover emerged several months ago and drew anger from HKGTA members, particularly those holding perpetual memberships, SCMP Economy reports. Some members paid as much as HK$2.68 million, about US$342,086, and said they learned from news reports that Carlyle & Co would take over in early June.
