Bitcoin slips below $63,000 as Coldcard wallet sweeps total $89M

Coldcard-linked attacks drained 1,367 bitcoin from about 4,585 addresses across three waves, keeping crypto under pressure even as oil, Treasury yields, and stock futures improved.

Bitcoin fell about 1% to around $62,800 on Monday and ether dropped to roughly $1,858, even as macro conditions improved, according to CoinDesk.

CoinDesk said crypto weakness appeared driven by market-specific security concerns after a widening exploit of Coldcard hardware wallets, which has drained about 1,367 bitcoin, nearly $89 million, from roughly 4,585 addresses across three attack waves.

The report noted that bitcoin dropped from a Sunday high near $63,600 to $62,800 and has not reclaimed $1,900 on the ether seven day view, with other majors mostly lower.

CoinDesk contrasted the slide in crypto with falling oil prices and lower Treasury yields after fresh US-Iran deal talk, which typically supports digital assets, but said the Coldcard issue showed no sign of containment.
