Hong Kong issues second straight amber rainstorm warning
The Hong Kong Observatory says heavy showers brought over 30 mm of rain in many areas, with up to 50 mm on Hong Kong Island.
Hong Kong is expecting sunnier conditions later this week, but it also faces very hot weather after an amber rainstorm warning was issued for a second consecutive morning, according to SCMP Economy. The Hong Kong Observatory issued the amber rainstorm warning signal at 6:40 am on Monday, following a similar alert on Sunday that remained in place for more than six hours. That warning was canceled at 8:45 am, while a thunderstorm warning issued on Sunday evening was extended to 10:30 am on Monday.
SCMP Economy reported the forecaster said persistent heavy showers, under a broad trough of low pressure, delivered more than 30 mm of rainfall to many places, and rainfall reached 50 mm on Hong Kong Island. It warned that intense rainfall could trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.
The Observatory said showers would continue to be heavy with squally thunderstorms over the coast of southern China during Monday, even as the weather outlook later turns sunnier.
