MS&AD insurers develop AI tool to flag generative AI claim images
The solution, built with TechUnion, is intended to scrutinize claim documents like damage photos and receipts for signs of AI generation or image alteration, with investment planned to finish in Q1 2026.
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance, both part of MS&AD, have developed an AI image detection solution aimed at spotting images that may have been created or modified using generative AI, Coverager reports.
The tool is designed to examine materials submitted for insurance claims, including photographs of damage, repair estimates, and receipts, by analyzing electronic characteristics and related information in the images using multiple detection technologies.
According to Coverager, the solution was developed with TechUnion Co., a Japanese firm focused on advanced image analysis.
MSI expects to complete its investment under the agreements in the first quarter of 2026, and the offering is made by Lexus Insurance Services and underwritten by Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance UK.
