Relm Insurance appoints Timothy Powell to lead Asia Pacific expansion

Powell, based in Sydney, will oversee Relm’s underwriting performance and help extend its footprint from Australia and Singapore into Hong Kong, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and mainland China.

Relm Insurance, a specialty insurer, named Timothy Powell as Head of Asia Pacific and Global Head of Underwriting Performance, placing him in Sydney to lead the carrier’s regional expansion. The insurer said the appointment is its first dedicated leadership presence in Asia Pacific and marks the start of a planned regional rollout.

Relm said Powell will lead growth across Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, with New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and mainland China described as natural extensions over time. Relm also cited Powell’s return to Australia after several years in London and said he brings underwriting expertise and broker relationships across the Asia Pacific region.

Before joining Relm, Powell worked at Everest Insurance, where he led International Financial Lines portfolios across the UK and Ireland, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Earlier roles included Global Head of Financial Lines and Cyber at Zurich Insurance and Chief Underwriting Officer for International Financial Lines at AXA XL.

Relm said Powell will be tasked with delivering above market ROEs and empowering its underwriters to develop solutions for emerging industries and advanced technology risk. The company added that it expects Powell’s established market relationships to support expanding coverage closer to brokers across Asia Pacific.
