Solana raises compute per block by 66.7%, leaving the hot-account cap unchanged

Solana lifted the max compute per block to 100 million CUs on July 29, but the per-account writable state limit of 12 million CUs in a block and the 100MB data-delta cap still constrain transactions that target the same busy account.

Solana has increased the maximum computation allowed per block from 60 million to 100 million compute units, a 66.7% jump that took effect on July 29. CryptoSlate reports the change expands total parallel headroom for transactions that do not contend over the same writable state.

The network’s separate limit for its busiest accounts was not altered. Solana maintained a 12 million CUs cap for what can be written to any single account within a block, while the maximum block accounts-data size delta remains 100MB, so transactions competing on the same “hot account” do not gain additional room.

Solana also disclosed in its fee documentation that optional prioritization fees depend on a transaction’s requested CU limit and CU price, affecting scheduling likelihood. CryptoSlate notes that the higher block ceiling alone does not indicate that priority fees fell for transactions targeting the same hot state.

The technical change is not presented as an immediate performance fix, since larger blocks can take longer to execute and potentially slow validator catch-up. The article also cites an Aug. 2 example of block activity, including consumed compute units, processed transactions, and successful transactions.
