Strategy sells $395 million of Bitcoin and MSTR to fund STRC and cash reserve
The sale raised funds for preferred dividends and STRC share repurchases, leaving Strategy with a $4 billion US dollar reserve and extending its Bitcoin acquisition pause to six straight weeks.
Strategy sold $104.7 million worth of Bitcoin and issued about 3.01 million MSTR common shares for $290.6 million, totaling nearly $395 million, according to an Aug. 3 SEC filing cited by CryptoSlate.
The company said none of the proceeds went to new Bitcoin purchases, and the shift supported preferred dividends, repurchases of its variable-rate preferred stock STRC, and completion of an expansion of its US dollar reserve to $4 billion.
CryptoSlate reports the latest Bitcoin sale brought Strategy 2026 disposals to 5,258 BTC, the largest annual amount since it adopted Bitcoin in 2020, while the company’s Bitcoin acquisition pause extended to six consecutive weeks, its longest stretch since 2024.
Strategy is treating STRC as a repeatable funding channel for its treasury, aiming to buy it back at discounts, with the pace depending on STRC trading near its $100 stated amount. CryptoSlate adds that Strategy used $52.3 million from the Bitcoin sale and $28.9 million from the MSTR issuance to buy back 912,143 STRC shares for $81.2 million last week, and it has spent about $106.2 million on STRC repurchases since launching the program in July.
