Bitcoin swap service Boltz suspends swaps indefinitely amid AI attacks

Boltz, a non-custodial provider, said AI-assisted probing is accelerating beyond its ability to patch, and it cannot give a timeline for resuming swaps.

Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin swap provider, has suspended its Bitcoin swap service indefinitely, disabling swaps until further notice. Decrypt reports the company made the move after saying AI-assisted attacks have outpaced its ability to fix vulnerabilities safely.

Boltz said no user funds were at risk because the service is non-custodial, and it currently has about $262,000 in total value locked, according to DeFiLlama. The company also said it cannot provide an ETA for when swaps will return.

In a series of posts on X, Boltz described the shutdown as part of a broader trend rather than a single incident, citing a steady rise in automated, AI-assisted probing over recent months. It added that multiple exploits were contained, but attackers now appear to iterate faster than a small team can find and patch.

Boltz said its API remains available for cooperative refunds and that unilateral refunds continue to work because they do not depend on its infrastructure, while customer support stays available. The company also said it is being actively targeted while it races to deploy fixes and warned users not to expect swap services to resume shortly.
