Coldcard warns bitcoin users to move funds as exploit continues
Coldcard said the firmware-related flaw is still active, with cumulative losses from self-custodied wallets rising to as much as $114 million, so owners must migrate funds by hand.
Coldcard, the maker of the self-custody bitcoin wallet, urged users to immediately move their funds, saying the ongoing exploit tied to certain device firmware is still live.
According to CoinDesk, the vulnerability has already drained as much as $114 million from self-custodied wallets and, on Tuesday, the company reiterated that affected users should treat the situation as urgent and migrate their bitcoin.
Coldcard said specific Mk3 devices configured on firmware 4.0.1 or later, as well as Mk4, Mk5 and Q devices on older firmware, remain exposed, while wallets created using the wallet’s dice-roll option are considered safe.
The company said the fix requires manual action, including following the advisory for the affected model, upgrading where applicable, generating a new seed, and carefully moving funds to reduce the risk while the threat remains ongoing.
