Dormant Bitcoin wallet moves after alleged Coldcard hack-linked drain

The 500-coin address spent just 191 sats in fees, and the broader Coldcard-related theft amount could reach about $130 million, according to Galaxy Research.

Bitcoin Magazine reports that a legacy Bitcoin address holding 500 coins, worth about $31.8 million at current prices, moved its entire balance for the first time in 12 years on Tuesday.

The outlet says blockchain data shows the funds were transferred in one transaction, with transaction fees of 191 sats, or about $0.12. It also notes that Lookonchain first flagged the move on X.

The report ties the activity to the ongoing Coldcard wallet security incident, where hackers reportedly took more than $35 million in Bitcoin after discovering a vulnerability in Coldcard wallet product software.

Bitcoin Magazine adds that Galaxy Research is investigating a fourth wave of Coldcard-related attacks, with the amount drained estimated to potentially stand at $130 million. It also cites prior warnings that Bitcoin addresses related to Coldcard could be at risk over time and notes Coinkite said all its Coldcard models were vulnerable following additional thefts.
