Seven killed in alleged Ukrainian drone attack on Gelendzhik beach
Russia said the attack killed three children and injured 40 people near the Black Sea resort, with it unclear whether electronic jamming or other air defenses diverted the drone.
Russia said seven people, including three children, were killed and 40 others were injured in an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on a beach area in Gelendzhik, a Black Sea holiday resort in southern Krasnodar region, according to Reuters citing Russian officials.
Social media videos verified by Reuters showed what appeared to be a drone hitting a busy beach area near the town, followed by a loud explosion.
Veniamin Kondratyev, the governor of Krasnodar region, called the incident a tragedy and said it was a deliberate attack on civilians with no connection to military infrastructure, Reuters reported.
Reuters also noted that it was not clear whether Russia used electronic jamming or other air defense methods to change the drone’s course before it struck the beach.
