U.S. trade deficit narrows in June as imports and exports fall

Both imports and exports declined in June, pulling the deficit back from May’s busier pace, according to U.S. Commerce data cited by The New York Times.

The New York Times reports that the U.S. trade deficit dipped in June as both imports and exports declined.

The outlet attributed at least part of the slowdown to a so called World Cup effect, noting that the June numbers retreated from a more active month in May.

The change was based on data from the U.S. Commerce Department, which showed declines on both sides of the trade ledger during the month.
